Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin added the Commonwealth welterweight title to his British belt with a seventh-round stoppage of Manchester’s Denton Vassell.
The fight didn’t live up to expectations, but it was Gavin who dominated early on before Vassell started to show why he was a undefeated fighter in round five by pushing Gavin back onto the ropes to take some punishing shots.
Gavin fought back well, and the fight was stopped at the end of round seven with the doctors advice that Vassell was unfit to continue with his swollen Jaw.
Undefeated Frankie Gavin’s record now stands at 16-0 while Denton Vassell record stands at 20-1 after suffering his first loss.
