Prospect Boxing put together another cracking three fight bill at Cleland Miners Welfare in Lanarkshire, Central Scotland last night(Friday 28th June).
The atmosphere in the intimate venue could be described as electric, exciting and intimidating alongside very even matchmaking lead to a great small hall classic show well worth the entry fee.
The first contest pitted Wishaw’s Mark Parvin ( 10st 7lbs) v Cleator Moore’s Martyn King ( 10st 13lbs) over 6x2min rounds. A pretty even first round with both boxers sussing each other out then in the second Parvin went down with a half slip half shove but the trialist referee Gerald O’Neill judging a knock down put Parvin a point behind going into the third. The fight got messy with a few fouls thrown in that may have unsettled Parvin and he might have been old man’d by the more experienced King but a very close fight that wasn’t reflected by the scoring referee Kenny Pringle’s 58/55 in favour of Martyn King,
Next Contest was Sanqhaur’s Rhys Pagan (10st 10lbs) 5-0 v Manchester’s Sam Omidi (10st 12lbs) 3-0 over 6x3min. Another very close fight ebbing and flowing that could’ve went either way with Omidi’s maturity and bullish strength v Pagans smother boxing skills. Nothing separating them until the last when Pagan dug deep in his first 6 x 3 minute fight and probably nicked the decision 58/57 from Kenny Pringle.
The final contest over 6x2min between Mike Towel from Dundee ( 10st 13lbs) v Ayr’s debutant Martin McCord (10st 13lbs) was a ding dong battle that would’ve graced any cobbles or phone box. It was a war and there would have been a travesty of justice if either of the lads went home with a defeat on their respective records. Thankfully Mr Pringle was of the same opinion and his 57/57 score was spot on.
With a buffet that could’ve fed the 5000 at Galilee, Funny man Gus Lymburn giving the crowd pelters, Piper Thomas Grierson entertaining the crown with a “guid auld” Scottish medley on his bagpipes and an auction and raffle that raised nearly £500 for a local charity, Masons mission, ex ref Paul Graham continues to give value for money and is a welcome addition to much needed grass route small hall promoting in Scotland.
