Fight Report: Billy Dib vs Mike Oliver

In the 10-round main event of ESPN Friday Night Fights, former IBF featherweight champion Billy “The Kid” Dib (35-2, 21 KOs) won a very contested 10-round bout via  majority decision against “Machine Gun” Mike Oliver (25-3, 8 KOs).  The score cards read 94-94 and 96-92 (twice) in favor of Dib who in his last outing lost the title via 12-round split decision to undefeated Russian Evgeny Gradovich (18-0).  The event was promoted by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions and took place on Friday July 5th at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

For most of the 10 rounds the fight was fought in close quarters with Dib working Oliver’s body while Oliver peppered Dib with his right hand all night.  In the 2nd round Dib was penalized for a “phantom” low blow which earned Dib a 1 point deduction and gave Oliver time to recuperate from a legal body punch that landed seconds before.  In the third round Dib was once again penalized for a low blow, losing another point in the cards.  The rest of the fight played out the same way with Dib putting pressure and Oliver fighting in spurts.  In the end Dib got the nod and moved closer to a rematch against Gradovich in the near future.
