Wraith Promotions announces Friday Fight Night

With no qualms regarding any form of superstition, Tyneside boxing promoter, Steve Wraith, moved quick to announce his next professional show, and with a change of venue to boot. The night of Friday 13th September will see ‘Friday Fight Night’ come to fruition at the Lancastrian Suite in Dunston, Gateshead.

“Essentially the Lancastrian Suite is and always has been one of my favourite venues,” began Steve.

“I’ve had seven successful years there on the White Collar circuit before turning to professional promoting there early last year. I also have had a vast number of successful talk-ins there. My first pro show, where I shadowed Phil Jeffries, in March

2012 was a good curve for me and I cannot thank Phil enough for what he has done for me.

“It was only a matter of time though before I did return there as Gateshead has always been my home. The O2 has been fantastic, they really have, and they have adapted well to the change for that of pro boxing so we will be back there in the not too distant future, I can guarantee that.”

That first show, co-promoted with Jeffries, was topped by Tyneside Bantamweight, Martin Ward, as he defeated Hyusein Hyuseinov (RTD5). Since then the Managing Director of Newcastle-based Wraith Promotions has gone from strength to strength.

Over the past twelve months the Tyneside entrepreneur has promoted three shows from within the O2 Academy in Newcastle’s City Centre. These were the scenes of ‘Return of the Cash,’ ‘Farewell to Fergie’ and the ‘Black and White Fight Night,’ the latter of which would seen Dougie Curran claim the International Masters Super Featherweight title with a PTS10 success over Pavels Senkovs.

The first fighter to be announced from what is hoped will be an eight bout show comes in the shape of unknown Gateshead Cruiserweight, Craig Nicholson (1-0) from the Tommy Conroy stable. Steve continued by saying that “I met up with Tommy earlier this year and had a good chat about things and secured that of Craig Nicholson as the first fighter for this show.

“He has been in the amateurs a number of years and has done really well, then made a successful transition to the pro ranks in March with a PTS4 victory over Arron Boyce at the Doncaster Racecourse. With him I will also be looking at blooding some more new talent, and some familiar faces.”

Friday Fight Night will be the fourth solo outing for Wraith Promotions and Steve Wraith. Scheduled for Friday 13th September the event will take place at the Lancastrian Suite in Dunston. Tickets will be on sale from this coming Friday (12th July) and priced at £30 for all areas. Initially tickets will be available from the Wraith Promotions website (www.wraithpromotions.com) and then from fighters when announced.
