Coldwell Boxing’s autumn offering at Manchester Bowlers on September 20th has received a significant boost as Preston’s Matty Clarkson will defend his Central Area light-heavyweight title against unbeaten Castleford man, Jamie Kelly. The Yorkshire v Lancashire theme continues on the show as this bout will play chief support to the English light-welterweight tussle between Shayne Singleton and Tyrone Nurse.
Clarkson has been in scintillating form since suffering his first defeat against Courtney Fry last December and that setback seems a distant memory as Clarkson has racked up three successive wins including capturing regional honours against Carl Wild in June. Kelly brings a 6-0-1 record across the Pennines with him and Coldwell believes that the victor can push on for further championship opportunities.
“This is a fight I really like because I know full well how hungry both fighters are,” buzzed Coldwell. “I’ve been really impressed with Matty with how he’s bounced back from the Courtney Fry fight because he’s done what every young fighter should do and that’s learning from defeat. He’s facing a focused and live fighter in Jamie Kelly and it’s a fight that he’ll have to be 100% switched on for because anything less could be disastrous. The winner of this has a huge chance to step up in class in a division that’s wide open so it’s up to the fighters to go out there and grab it.”
