Unbeaten Light Heavyweight prospect Joel McIntyre is back in action, at York Hall in London, this coming Saturday, where he takes on Doncasters James The Slugger Tucker on the Johnny Eames TRAD TKO Events promoted Turf War mega show.
Over the past year or so, Joel, the protégé of fellow Portsmouth star, former Light Heavyweight World Champion Tony Oakey Coakey Oakey, has been making regular trips to the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, where he has been the regular sparring partner for British, Commonwealth and now WBO International Middleweight King Billy Joe Saunders for his major title fights.
Its this experience that the Pompey lad believes has been key to his excellent form to date, as he made clear when he spoke earlier.
Really looking forward to fighting at York Hall on the 27th July.
Yeah, weve got James Tucker, have to say its good to get to know who youve got nice and early for a change.
Ive seen him fight before, when he fought Danny Couzens down my end.
In my opinion he won the fight, he was busy and done well, so yeah hes definitely going to come and give a good account of himself.
Its nice to come up to London to fight, most of my fights have been local to myself in Portsmouth. Saying that, my last two have been here in London.
Its a bit of a way for my fans to travel, but you get more recognition when you fight in London, so I cant complain too much and take them as they come.
It suits me better to fight in London at the moment, for the past few weeks I have been based here during the week.
Been up here at the TRAD TKO a lot recently, sparring Billy Joe getting him nice and sharp for his fight against Spike (Gary OSullivan) last Saturday.
Billy Joe did brilliant, he showed hes a class above the rest in the Middleweight division, it was a really great win.
I intend to do the same against James Tucker on Saturday, Ill fight my fight and get a great win.
Its really good timing, with us fighting so close, mind you it seems to happen that way, last few times I was up here sparring Billy Joe, we were both fighting around the same time. It always works out quite good.
Its was brilliant sparring for me and been getting nice and fit, Im happy so thats all that matters.
I have to say I really appreciate all the support I get from my fans, I know its not easy for them when they have to travel, but they always come and pack it out, they really get the York Hall rocking you know.
Theres other boys, friends of mine thatll also be fighting, all good prospects, I mean its a seriously strong card, I cant believe how good it is.
All the boys on the show have really good followings, but I know that the lads that come down for me will be supporting them as well, I mean were family, were the TRAD TKO family.
Joel McIntyre versus James Tucker features on the undercard of the Ian Bailey – Dan Naylor Southern Area Featherweight title clash that headlines the Johnny Eames TRAD TKO Events promoted Turf War at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 27th July 2013.
