In this weeks 10 count, Ringnews24 catches up with Welsh Featherweight Lee Selby (16-1).

Lee recently made the Boxing headlines by signing with Matchroom, to add to their ever growing stable of talent. He is next out on the 5th October, when he defends his British and Commonwealth featherweight titles against Cromer’s Ryan Walsh.

Ringnews24.com: At what age did you take up boxing and why?

I started boxing aged 8. My Dads a boxing fanatic so he sent my older brother then myself and Andrew as soon as we were old enough. We caught the bug and were hooked from there really

Ringnews24.com: What’s your favourite thing about being a fighter?

The thing I like the most, is Its given me the chance to be successful in something that I love doing.

Ringnews24.com: What does your average daily training regime consist of?

Normally it’s running in the morning, followed by some gym work in the afternoon which includes a bit of bag work, pads, and some sparring, followed by some circuits in the evening.

Ringnews24.com: What’s your favourite training meal?

I like my Muesli for Breakfast, it gives me the energy I need through the day to carry out the strict training we do

Ringnews24.com: What’s your favourite post fight meal?

After camp when I can relax a bit, I love a nice mixed grill with cheesecake for afters!

Ringnews24.com: Who’s your favourite fighter in the game today?

It would have to be Floyd Mayweather because of what he has achieved in the sport also his defensive mastery

Ringnews24.com: Who’s your favourite all time fighter?

I have a few – Ali, Robinson, Hearns, McClellan. All of these fighters could do it all, they could box at range as well as in close and they had One punch KO power

Ringnews24.com: What’s you favourite punch combination during a fight?

Instead of favourite combo I’ll go with my favourite shot which is my jab. You can use it to set up the combinations and also as a range finder to keep your opponent thinking.

Ringnews24.com: What’s the hardest thing about being a boxer?

The hardest thing would be not being around friends and family due to the training commitments

Ringnews24.com: If you wasn’t a boxer what would you be?

If I wasn’t a fighter myself then I’d be a Boxing Trainer. With my love of the sport, i couldn’t see me doing anything else outside of boxing. With my knowledge of the game I’d love to pass things on to younger fighters coming through.
