The fight against the scale, a boxers worst nightmare

Most fighters are trained and focused when it comes to making weight, but there are times when the pounds are just not coming off. “What fans don’t understand because they don’t know nothing, is that it’s mentally draining on the body.” Coach Schultz stated. Fans sometimes view boxing as a video game and don’t take the time to appreciate the fact that these guys and girls are really taking these punches. They have to heal, and making weight can be challenging.

Most fans say oh well the fighter wasn’t trying to make weight, even boxing writers would state that remark and former trainer of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield Tommy Brooks said, “It pisses me off when they say that about a fighter, when they never even tried to cut weight before, if someone told them they had to make a certain weight to write a report or something, most of them writers would be fired.”

Brandon Rios almost looked to be at near death to make weight at 135, and even know it looks like Mickey Garcia is having the same trouble at 126, sometimes the body just doesn’t want to cut the pounds and that’s when most fighter go to extreme measures to try and make weight. Some won’t eat for days and it takes a toll on the body that can’t be recovered in just a few hours.
