American Juan Diaz chats to Ringnews24 boxing radio after his recent fifth-round TKO win against Adailton De Jesus.
Anthony George: I have always been a fan of you and your fights, You give it your all. Obviously all those great fights, your last fight was July 31st 2010 a tough decision loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. We haven’t seen you in quite a long time, then here it is, calendar year 2013 and you decide to lace up the boxing gloves again. What led you to that decision?
Juan Diaz: Well, I did take a two-and-a-half year lay off and at twenty-Seven I decided to hang up the gloves. At the time, it was time to lace them up my body was screaming at me to give it a break. I had been boxing since the age of eight and at twenty-seven, that’s nineteen years in the game over one-hundred amateur fights and thirty something professional fights, at the time my body was screaming that it needed a rest. I wasn’t feeling the passion any more and desire. It was more of a job to me, it was always in my plans or at least I gave my self a option that’s why I retired. I didn’t’ want anyone telling me when I was going to come back or what I was going to do, or this and that. I just wanted to be left alone, and I really wanted a break from the sport. At 29, last year in December I decided it was time to lace them back up and here I am. I have just finished my second fight of my come back.
