Paul Truscott: ‘I expect to win against Kirk Goodings’

Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott will look to bounce back from a KO defeat last time out by claiming the vacant English lightweight title against Kirk Goodings on October 19.

Paul, beaten in eight rounds in July against hard-hitting Ghanaian Richard Commey, gets a tough test in Sunderland’s Goodings but the Tees man believes he has the ability to beat his North East rival.

“Kirk’s a good opponent,” said the former Commonwealth featherweight champion.  “He’s hungry so I won’t underestimate him and all fights are must win fights.

“If I perform to the best of my ability I expect to win, but I don’t expect it to be easy.  I’m looking forward to it.”

“This is a terrific match which is worthy of TV coverage,” said Pro Box North East promoter, Phil Jeffries.

“The experience obviously lies with Truscott who has only lost four of 23 fights, but Kirk won’t stop coming forward and will be very strong.  I really don’t know who will win; it’s a 50-50 fight which is exactly what the fans want to see.  There are far too many one-sided fights these days.”

Pro Box North East presents Sunderland’s Kirk Goodings and Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott contesting the vacant English lightweight title at the Rainton Meadows Arena on October 19.

The undercard will feature some of the best unbeaten fighters from the region including Easington’s Paul Archer; Sunderland’s Jonson McClumpha; Hartlepool’s Mick Hadfield, Horden’s Anthony Hardy, and Newcastle’s Chris Bennett.  Also appearing will be Edinburgh’s John McCallum.

Tickets are available from all boxers or by calling 0774 611 020.
