Ringnews24.com: Congratulations Mitch on your victory. Were you happy with your performance on the night?
My performance two weeks ago was below par. I wasn’t happy ‘cause I should have put him away early.
Ringnews24.com: Early in the fight you went straight to the body of Godor and throughout the fight it was very successful; is this something you worked on during training camp?
We work on a variety of things during the training camps – I get into tremendous shape ready to work the body as well as the head. I saw an opportunity to work the body so I did exactly that.
Ringnews24.com: The single and double jab allowed you to move inside and set up the body shots; were you surprised how easy it was to get your shots away after the jab?
The thing is I try work off the jab as much as possible, even better the double jab; it was working well and opening him up well.
Ringnews24.com: The crowd started shouting for uppercuts and you started adding the uppercut into your combinations; do you feel that was a bad move playing into the crowd’s hands or were they right that you forgot to use the uppercut?
The crowd as well as my cornerman were shouting for the uppercuts; he was wide open for them, but I failed to notice it myself. When I brought the uppercuts up there were very few that never connected.
Ringnews24.com: Your heads clashed three times on the night and you got a slight nick on your eyebrow – what are your feelings about the head clashes?
I believe the number of head clashes were astonishing! I got hit with Godor’s head more than his gloves. The referee was a total joke, he was warning him about holding as well as numerous uses of his head. The referee was one of the worst I have ever seen – over and over again he was telling Godor to “watch it” or “cut it out” – something should have been done.
Ringnews24.com: What did you do after the fight to celebrate your victory?
After the fight we had an after party organised at Boutique Glasgow where we were all joined by my generous new sponsor Lee Rawlings from ringsideboxingequipment.co.uk.
Ringnews24.com: After your impressive display against Godor, who would you like to fight next?
After I got Godor out the way I am looking forward to bigger fights, better opponents, big names and big titles. I am up there at that level and I showed that when I was robbed by the judges when I put a beatdown on Willie Limond. I will fight anyone, anywhere. That’s what I’m in this game for.
Ringnews24.com: What do you think of Darren Hamilton, Lenny Daws and the other top guys in your division?
I honestly think there is an opening in the light-welterweight division with the likes of Daws, who is now over the hill and been in too many hard fights that have taken a lot out of him. Darren Hamilton is very limited – average to mediocre – but is as strong as an ox. With the right game plan a boxing ability I think he’s there for the taking. I am more looking for the likes of the big names in the lightweight division, Martin Gethin especially. The top guys there would do me and I would definitely campaign as a lightweight for the right title fights and with the right preparation and notice. I can’t see me losing as a lightweight.
Ringnews24.com: You have had two point defeats in your career, would you like a rematch with Limond or Green?
My two defeats were questionable – Green should have been deducted points for illegal use of elbows causing a cut at the back of my head, but he won by one point. Green is a lifetime ago; he’s not in my league now, I am leaps and bounds above him. Wanting to fight him would be a backward step for me. But as I said, I’ll fight anyone. As for Limond, everyone knew I should have won that fight. I have personally asked Willie for a rematch and sadly he declined. I make it no secret. The better the opponent, the bigger the fight the better I perform. I rise to the occasion. Thanks very much for the interest and I do apologise again for the belated reply. Thanks again. And a MASSIVE thank you to Ringsideboxingequipment for all the help and support. TEAM PRINCE!!
