When Leon McKenzie heard on Monday that original opponent Dan Blackwell had refused to fight him this forthcoming Saturday despair turned to joy when promoter Steve Goodwin announced the replacement as Surrey tough guy Darren McKenna.
The fight takes place at York Hall Bethnal Green at the Goodwin Promotions event “Lionheart and B raveheart”.
“After I won my debut, McKenna called me out and disrespected me on twitter. I can’t believe I now have the chance to literally rame his words back down his throat. There was no need for him to call me out or disrespect me when I had not had a boxing fight of any kind and he was so experienced.”
“I have respect for all boxers who get into the ring including McKenna but I am going to teach him to respect others.”
Leon won his professional debut stopping John Mason in his first fight at York Hall before winning a decision against Robert Studzinski at Norwich in his second fight.
The McKenzie v McKenna grudge match is part of an action packed 15 fight card at York Hall which contains the special feature undefeated Philip “Quicksilver” Bowes taking on former British Champion.
Joint top of the bill features three title clashes. Lee Markham goes for Masters title history is attempting to win his third masters title with a British Masters Gold title clash against former Southern Area Champion Sam Couzens.
Brentwood’s Kris agyei Dua hopes to make it third time lucky in title challenges when he takes on Czech Ironman Jan Balog whilst Goodwin’s “Golden Boy” the undefeated John McCallum from Edinburgh takes on Baltic Champion Adam Grabiec for the International Masters Bronze Light Middleweight title.
Some other fantastic clashes support the show which starts at 5.15pm.
