At Newcastle’s Centre for Sport on December 7, Martin Ward (pictured) was given the opportunity to claim the Commonwealth bantamweight title with a unanimous points victory over Ghanaian Gabriel Laryea Odoi.
Also on the bill – South Shields’ Anthony Nelson took a step nearer to a domestic title challenge after moving to 8-0 with a win over former British flyweight title challenger, Usman Ahmed.
There were also wins on the show for Sunderland heavyweight Danny Hughes; Newcastle’s Andrew Buchanan, who picked up the International Masters super-middleweight title; and Hartlepool’s Peter Cope who claimed win number nine over Sean Hughes.
