‘Stand & Deliver’ at York Hall, Feb 23rd

Left Jab’s Sunday afternoons at York Hall, Bethnal Green, are now an established part of the British boxing scene with promoter Miranda Carter invariably serving up a feast of fast-paced action featuring contenders old and new. ‘Stand & Deliver’ on 23rd February promises to continue the tradition.

Ideh ‘Sholay’ Ochuko won his British Masters Lightweight title last November in a small-hall classic and will defend the title against Francis Maina. Another whole-hearted contest is confidently predicted.

Unbeaten middleweight prospect Alan ‘Avalanche’ Higgins (6-0) is aiming for a big 2014, starting here with his first ten rounder. Another crowd-pleaser, former English title holder Kreshnik ‘The Eagle’ Qato, returns to the ring, as does former Southern Area champion Ryan Toms. The battling Eren Arif makes his first outing since his Prizefighter ‘fight of the night’ appearance last July.

The list of entertaining fighters continues, with the skilful Areti Mastrodouka, the brawling Adam Salman, and Reading’s tough Mark Douglas.

Left Jab matchmaker Jim Evans has named his ‘not to be missed’ fight as Lithuanian puncher Virgilijus Stapulionis (22-2, 15 Kos) versus 2010 Prizefighter winner Patrick Mendy. It is a crossroads fight for Mendy and an opportunity for ‘Virgis’ to show off his power in his first London appearance since dispatching Richard Williams in the first round in 2012.

All this and a full supporting cast featuring Johnny Coyle, Jack Dishart and Tommy Williams, with Chelmsford’s Brett Saggs making his professional debut.

‘Stand & Deliver’ at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Sunday 23rd February 2014. Doors open 2pm, Boxing 3pm.
