Former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (34-5, 17 KOs) is no stranger to big fights. In 2006, he fought an undefeated Ricky Hatton in Boston, Massachusetts and ended up on the wrong end of a controversial decision. A year later he was defeated by future hall of famer “Sugar” Shane Mosely and in 2009 he dropped a close decision to then rising star Andre Berto.
Tonight, he’ll be in another high profile scrum when he takes on Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KOs), who’s coming off of two straight defeats and a 19-month layoff.
“This is a big fight, but I believe that I’ve been in bigger fights,” Collazo said. “The Hatton fight, the Shane fight; but I’m just happy to be back at this caliber of a fight.”
Many have questioned his opponent’s heart, after Ortiz failed to continue against Marcos Maidana in 2009 (cuts) and Josesito Lopez in 2012 (broken jaw). Collazo won’t buy into the talk, instead he’d like see what Ortiz is made of for himself.
