Collazo inflicts another defeat on Ortiz

That nail on the wall could be calling for Victor Ortiz to hang up the gloves as he was soundly beaten in two rounds by Luis Collazo in New York for the WBA international welterweight title.

Perhaps not unexpectedly, Ortiz started positively, meeting Collazo in the centre of the ring and landing sharp single punches upstairs and down while the former WBA welterweight champion boxed behind his jab.

Collazo picked up the pace in the second but Ortiz was still landing heavily upstairs and down. Both guys got involved in a clinch and Ortiz saw fit to rabbit punch Collazo, a foul that he was warned for. A heavy left hook to the head and a right that followed  were scored by Ortiz but he still had to contend with the good jab of Collazo. The end came seconds later when Ortiz threw a left to the head, while his opponent threw a right. Unfortunately for Ortiz, luck was not on his side as Collazo was successful. Ortiz, visibly shaken, turned his back  and tried to hurry into the corner. Collazo came after him and missed a right and a left to the back of the head of Ortiz, but regardless, the Oxnard resident sank to his knees and failed to rise to beat the count.

An ecstatic Luis Collazo said, “I knew he was going to come out aggressive but I saw that he was wide open. I want Floyd (Mayweather) here in New York.”
