Ringside Report: Blake Caparello vs Elvir Muriqi

In the main event of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights Blake Caparello defeated Elvir Muriqi via unanimous decision with scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 100-90. Muriqi, who was hoping to mount a comeback, instead opted to call it quits and announced his retirement following his defeat to Caparello.

Although the main event lacked excitement, Caparello shined in spots and looked like a promising prospect.  Caparello, via Victoria, Australia, worked his jab to keep his opponent at bay, and landed his lead right hand at will.  Muriqi who was clearly frustrated after his defeat mentioned that he was unable to pull the trigger against the younger fighter.  With the win Caparello improves to 19 wins, no losses, one draw and 6KOs.

The undercard featured a cross roads fight between Junior Featherweights Luis “KO King” Rosa (15-0, 7KOs) and Jorge “King” Diaz (17-2, 10KOs) who battled for eight grueling rounds.  Diaz came out aggressive in the first rounds and used his speed and power landing some hellacious right hands.  As the fight wore on, Rosa was beginning to dictate the pace landing great body shots which started to take an effect on Diaz.  Rosa dropped Diaz twice in the fight and had him in trouble in the later rounds.

Although Diaz looked as if he wouldn’t see the final bell he valiantly continued to fight on.  In the end, Rosa’s hand was raised in victory when the judges saw the fight 78-72, 79-71, 80-70 all in favor of Luis Rosa.
