Tipton’s Lee Glover is predicting that he will rip the English super-featherweight title from champion Jon Kays when the pair meet at the Oldham Sports Centre on March 8.
In a fight screened live and free on VIPBOXING.TV, Glover is adamant that boxing in the lion’s den holds no fear for him and insists he has put too much into his preparation to come away empty-handed.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” explained Lee, who has lost just one fight in seven. “I’ve trained hard for it and it will be a good fight for me to push on with my career.
“As an amateur I had lots of fights and boxed away from home many times, so I’m just looking forward to getting in the ring and showing the away fans what I can do.”
With 21 fights under his belt, ‘2 Smokes’ Kays is the more experienced man. The 30-year-old is gunning for future revenge over Gary Sykes and Liam Walsh, who have beaten him in English and Commonwealth title fights respectively. But ‘The Tipton Slasher’ says he will hand the Ashton under Lyne man his fourth career defeat and return to the West Midlands as champion.
“I respect him,” revealed Glover, 26. “What I’ve seen of him he’s a nice tidy boxer and it should be a good fight. I’ve taken the fight believing I can beat him so we’ll just have to see what happens.
“I can see it being about a sixth round stoppage by me, or me beating him on points. Either way I’ve trained hard to win the fight and I believe in myself.”
VIP Promotions’ Steve Wood said: “I see this being a terrific small-hall fight. Jon wants the winner of Sykes and Walsh, who are due to fight for the British title soon, but he knows he cannot overlook this next contest. Glover has only lost to big-punching Choi Tseveenpurev, and there’s no shame in that, so he’ll present a real challenge. It will be a great spectacle for the fans in the venue and those watching on VIPBOXING.TV.”
VIP Promotions presents Jon Kays defending his English super-featherweight title against Lee Glover at the Oldham Sports Centre on March 8. Appearing on a top undercard will be Middleton’s Warren Tansey, Alex Rutter, Matthew Ryan and Liam Taylor; Heywood’s Mark Thompson; Oldham’s Marvin Greaves and Ashley Mayall; Derbyshire’s Jack Massey; Lancashire’s AJ Faizy, and Liverpool’s Anthony Smith. Manchester’s Dale Coyne will make his debut.
Tickets, priced at £30 (General) and £60 (Ringside), are available from all boxers or at vipbe.co.uk
