Jon Ibbotson is back after his two-year break from boxing

Ringnews24.com: You have a fight coming up against  Courtney Richards. How did that fight come about and which other boxers were you looking at?

My manager Carl Greaves told me I would be boxing on a show at Barnsley Metrodome on March the 7th. I didn’t look at any opponents, I just left that to Carl. He called me up sometime in January and said he was looking at getting me someone called Courtney Richards, I said yeah, ok.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your current trainer and where do you train?

My Trainer is Andy Marlow, I train with him at S18 gym in Dronfield.

Ringnews24.com: You are currently in the middle of a training camp to prepare for Richards, could you tell us a little about your camp?

Training’s gone well, I haven’t fought for 2 years but was always doing some type of training like running or weights when I wasn’t boxing. To tell you the truth, I feel better in the gym than I have ever felt before. Sparring is going really well.

Ringnews24.com: How is your training going and how would you compare it to other training camps that you have done?

I don’t compare training camps but I will say that I feel stronger than ever and more relaxed.

Ringnews24.com: Who have you been sparring in preparation for Richards?

I have been sparring with Neil Dawson and Will Burkin.

Ringnews24.com: Have you seen much footage of Richards and what do you think of him as a fighter?

Haven’t seen anything of Richards so I can’t comment on him as a fighter.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a prediction of how the fight will end?

Of course my prediction is going to be that I will be victorious. I not going to predict a round to KO him or to win him on points or anything like that, I will see on the night and get the win by any means necessary.

Ringnews24.com: You are fighting on March 17th , at the Metrodome in Barnsley, have you visited the venue before?

Yes, I’ve fought at the Metrodome a few times, both pro and amateur.

Ringnews24.com Who is going to be in your corner on the night? And what do they bring to Team Ibbotson?

In my corner will be Andy Marlow and Mark Willie. Andy is my boxing trainer and Mark is my strength and conditioning coach.

Ringnews24.com: After your victory, are there any fighters that you would like to call out?

After this win I will talk to Carl to see where we go, maybe another 6 round fight as I haven’t fought in over 2 years, then I want to fight for titles.

Ringnews24.com: Thanks for doing an interview with Ringnews24, we wish you all the best on the night.

Thanks – Jon ibbotson
