Scotty Cardle aiming to make a name for himself in the lightweight division

Ringnews24.com: You have a fight coming up against Paul Appleby. How did that fight come about and which other boxers were you looking at?

The fight had been offered to me mid January after a meeting I had with Eddie Hearn and Joe Gallagher. My main objective this year is to start making a name in the lightweight division, and to do that I have to start fighting names, so the fight was accepted.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your current trainer and where do you train?

Joe Gallagher and I train at the Gloves Community Gym (Khans Gym) in Bolton.

Ringnews24.com: You are currently in the middle of a training camp to prepare for Appleby, could you tell us a little about your camp?

The camp has been great. Me and the team have been over in LA for two weeks in January for some very beneficial sparring and hot climate running, since I’ve been back I’ve just been fully focused on Appleby’s style and working on a game plan.

Ringnews24.com: How is your training going and how would you compare it to other training camps that you have done?

In the past I’ve had very little time to prepare for a specific opponent and style but this time I’ve had good time to study and to work on things so that’s been helpful, but pretty much like all camps, training has been intense and full on and I’m fully prepared for the job in hand.

Ringnews24.com: Who have you been sparring in preparation for Appleby?

I have been doing a lot of sparring from the boys in the gym like Crolla, Quigg and Stephen Smith, but other than that a lot of helpful spars in the Wildcard, LA and had a few kids from out of town also.

Ringnews24.com: Have you done anything differently in this camp compared to other training camps?

Not really, we cover all grounds in all camps! Just styles of opponents change.

Ringnews24.com: Have you seen much footage of Appleby, and what do you think of him as a fighter?

Yes, I’ve studied Appleby quite a bit over the past few weeks and I rate him as a fighter, definitely the test and step up I have been asking for.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a prediction of how the fight will end?

I can only predict that it will be a great fight and I will put on a good performance.

Ringnews24.com: You are fighting on March 1st at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, have you visited the venue before?

Yes, I boxed on the Burns vs Beltran bill and I loved the experience! Great atmosphere.

Ringnews24.com Who is going to be in your corner on the night? And what do they bring to Team Cardle?

Joe Gallagher and Anthony Crolla, they both bring a lot of boxing knowledge and experience, always great advice given to me in between rounds.

Ringnews24.com: How can fans watch the fight? Is the fight on TV and what channel?

The fight should be shown on Sky Sports Live on Saturday night.

Ringnews24.com: After your victory, are there any fighters that you would like to call out?

I just want to keep moving forward after this fight and obviously there’s enough fights for me to keep the progression, so nobody in particular. I have a close eye on everyone in my division.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

Just that their support is always appreciated and I hope I give them a show to be happy with on March 1st.

Ringnews24.com: Thanks for doing an interview with Ringnews24, we wish you all the best on the night.
