George Jupp is looking forward to fighting at York Hall against Gia Atenov

Ringnews24.com: You have a fight coming up against Gia Atenov. How did that fight come about and which other boxers were you looking at?

Yes I have my first title fight coming up against Gia Atenov. The fight was offered to my trainer/manager Derek Grainger by my promoter, Steve Goodwin. After taking a look a Atenov we all agreed as a team that he would be a good opponent for me.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your current trainer and were do you train?

I’m currently being trained by Derek Grainger and we are training at a gym in East London called the Lansbury Boxing Club.

Ringnews24.com: You are currently in the middle of a training camp to prepare for Atenov; could you tell us a little about your camp?

Yes, I’m coming to the end of a 9 week camp. The camp as a whole has gone great; we have had a lot of good sparring and lots of technical work with my trainer to make sure I’m more than ready come fight night.

This camp’s been slightly different to my previous fights as I have only done a six-rounder before, so this being a 10-round fight, we have had to increase the number of rounds I’m working. We have also made sure I’m putting in more work with my road and track work. I’ve felt a massive benefit from the longer sprints and miles put in on the road when I’m sparring.

Ringnews24.com: Who have you been sparring?

I’ve been sparring a bunch of fighters – Adam Dingsdale, Jack Dishart and I have done a few rounds with Lewis Pettit and Mitchell Smith.

Ringnews24.com: Have you seen much footage of Atenov and what do you think of him as a fighter?

I’ve not seen much of Atenov – only one video online – but he looks a good fighter, quite sharp and can be awkward. He looks like a experienced fighter and he’s got a very good record – only one loss from 11 fights – so I’m expecting him to come with lots of ambition, which should make for a good fight.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a prediction of how the fight will end?

I feel my boxing ability and engine will shine through and force a late stoppage.

Ringnews24.com: The fight is on March 8th at York Hall in London – have you visited the venue before?

Yes, York Hall is somewhere I’ve boxed quite a few times, amateur and pro, and I’ve also been to many pro shows to watch boxing. It’s a great venue where fans are right on top of the action – when full the atmosphere is amazing.

Ringnews24.com Who is going to be in your corner on the night and what do they bring to Team Jupp?

In my corner on the night will be Derek Grainger and my cuts man Al Wilkey. They are both great people too have backing me with heaps of knowledge. Del’s a great trainer who puts in endless hours in the gym. He was a good fighter himself and so passionate about the sport, so he’s a quality man to have guiding me who I can’t thank enough.

Ringnews24.com: How can fans watch the fight – is it on TV?

Unfortunately the show isn’t televised so anyone who wants to see the fight will have to buy a ticket – from me of course [laughs], but if anyone misses the show then they can watch it on Youtube later.

Ringnews24.com: After your victory, are there any fighters that you would like to call out?

I’m just looking at putting in a good performance and getting good experience that will only hold me in good stead for bigger fights in the future. Calling people out isn’t my style.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

To anyone that helps me in anyway whether it be training, sponsorship or buying a ticket I’m truly grateful. In return I hope to put on a great show every time I fight.

Ringnews24.com: Thanks for talking to Ringnews24, we wish you all the best on the night.

Thank you for your time.
