Q & A with Ricardo Pinell, to appear on IBA champ Escalante undercard

Fresh off his initial title acquisition, International Boxing Association (IBA) super flyweight champion Bruno “The Aloha Kid” Escalante (11-1-1, 5 KO’s) will see his first action of 2014, to appear as the main-event in what will be a ten-round non-title affair taking place this Friday night, February 28th at the Fox Theater in Redwood City, CA.
Named the 2013 Northern California Fighter of the Year by a panel of local boxing media, Escalante of nearby Belmont after a 5-0 campaign is looking in 2014 to pick up where he left off as he takes on veteran Lorenzo Trejo (33-28-1, 20 KO’s) of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.
Presented by Don Chargin Productions and Paco Presents, also featured in a six-round co-main event will be Jonathan “El Carismatico” Chicas (12-1, 5 KO’s) of San Francisco, CA, as he takes on a vastly more experienced fighter in Rogelio Castaneda Jr. (26-19-3,8 KO’s) of Sacramento.
Coming off a sensational TKO win over Rodolfo Armenta this past December, Chicas is out to improve his record while Castaneda Jr., who’s tangled with formidable foes the likes of Lucas Matthysse, would like to make a statement at the expense of Chicas.
Last but certainly not least as concerns the headliner’s is middleweight Ricardo Pinell (6-1-1, 5 KO’s), also a native San Franciscan who by way of mainly laying opponents out is perhaps the most exciting fighter on the card.
Recently felling unlucky opponent Arthur Brambila within two rounds in December, I caught up with the young talented southpaw of Nicaraguan descent to gain some insight, as well get his perspective on where he believes he’s going to fit in the fight game as things progress.
