A great night of boxing on the Mersey

On the 15th of March The Echo Arena in Liverpool will be the venue for a colossal night of boxing in arguable the biggest and best boxing card the Merseyside shores has ever seen.

The extraordinary lineup will be headlined by local boy Tony “Bomber” Bellew who his making his Cruserweight  debut as a Pro after his disappointing 6th round Knockout loss to devastating puncher Adonis Stevenson for the WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight Titles, This was Tony’s second failed attempt of collecting World honors at Light Heavyweight as he lost a controversial MD decision to rival Welshman Nathan Cleverly. Bellew however will not have an easy task on the 15th as he faces a former 4 time World Title challenger in Russian Valery Brudov who will certainly be coming over to “Bomber’s” hometown looking for the victory and therefore putting a holt to the Scousers dream of finally becoming a World Champion.

Also on the bill is Sheffield’s unbeaten 31-0 World Title hopeful “Special K” Kell Brook. Brook will be in a 10 round contest against a yet to be named opponent in what even promoter Eddie Hearn had described as a ” Tune-Up fight” As Brook is Mandatory for the IBF Welterweight Title with whoever the Champion is having to face Kell in the Summer. This year is a big year for the Sheffield fighter with many people being slightly frustrated with the fact that after so many years without suffering a loss Brook still hasn’t fought for a World Title, Especially considering he was scheduled to fight for the IBF belt last year against Champion at the time Devon Alexander but the bout was cancelled after 2 postponements due to injuries from both fighters. Another massive name who is on the bill is former 2 time World Title challenger Kevin Mitchell who will be competing in a 8 round bout also against a yet to be named opponent the Londoner has lucked superb in his last 3 performances since the loss to Scotsman Ricky Burns for the WBO lightweight title. And will no doubt be looking the continue this run in order set up another run at a World Title.

There is also a mega local showdown on the bill which will see up and coming potential superstar Rocky Fielding take on experienced top quality Pro Tony Dodson, Fielding will come into the fight as the favorite but this is without doubt the biggest test of the youngsters 17-0 career. This fight leads me on very nicely to Paul Smith who is also fighting on this superb card which will more than likely providing both Smith and Fielding come out victorious in there respective bouts will set up a monster clash between the Liverpudlian boxers for Smith’s British Super Middleweight crown later this year. Unfortunately Paul’s Brothers Callum and Stephen were both scheduled to fight on the card but were pulled out due to injuries, But what a night of drama and overwhelming excitement we are all in for on the 15th in Liverpool.
