Dai Jones preparing hard for Welsh title fight

Blackwood boxer Dai Jones is busy preparing for his biggest fight; a shot at the Welsh light-middleweight belt against Jerome Samuels. Trained by Tony Borg, at St. Joseph’s in Newport the 26-year-old boxer is hard at work getting himself ready for the rematch which takes place on Friday 14th March at the Newport Centre.

The tough-battling boxer has a fan friendly style and the contest promises to be exciting and hard-hitting. Ringnews24 caught-up with Dai at the St.Joseph’s gym.

Ringnews24.com: How have preparations been going?

Preparations gone great, trainings gone good. No injuries, no illnesses, so trainings gone well. Making the weight comfortably, everything’s gone well for this fight.

Ringnews24.com: Who have you been sparring, in the build-up to this fight?

Craig Evans, Frankie Borg, Lee Selby, Gary Buckland, Rhys Evans and Robbie Turley – loads of different styles, so will be able to cope with anything Jerome brings to the table.

I’ve trained for ten rounds, have done loads of ten round sparring sessions. I’ve prepared myself as good as I can.

Ringnews24.com: Prediction for the fight on March 14th?

I think I’ll win by stoppage, middle to late rounds. If not I’ll beat him on points but I reckon I can take him out.

Ringnews24.com: Your thoughts on fighting for The Welsh title?

Can’t wait. It’s a great stepping-stone to move onto other things but it’s a nice title to win. To be champion of your own country is a great honour.
