AJ Carter: “My long term goal is to become heavyweight champion of the world”

Ringnews24.com: At what age did you start boxing and what inspired you to become a fighter?

I have always been in and around Boxing from a very young age due  to my father (Carlton Warren) being a former professional himself and when growing up he would bring me around to different gyms such as the Thomas A Becket and The Masons Arms. I never took to Boxing initially as I was forced to train as a child, but Boxing is in my blood! As well as my father, my uncle was an ex boxer as were close friends of the family so I am merely answering fates call. However I started taking Boxing seriously from the age of 22 and have not looked back since.

Ringnews24.com: What was your amateur record and did you win anything as an amateur boxer?

As a amateur I had 5 fights consisting of 3 wins and 2 losses and no, I didn’t win anything as an amateur.
Ringnews24.com: How did you find the step up from amateur to professional boxer?

I found the step up fine.

Ringnews24.com: What side of your game have you worked on the most since turning pro professional?

There is no side of my game I have favoured to work on. I have worked on myself all round as a fighter and am always looking to improve myself in every way.

Ringnews24.com: Aside from boxing, do you have any hobbies or interests that you pursue?

Nothing else interests me apart from Boxing

Ringnews24.com: Do you have any short or long-term goals within the sport and if so, have you set yourself a timescale on reaching them?

My short term goals would be to gain as much experience as I can and to be as active as possible and earn the right to put my name in the mix. My one and only long term goal in the sport is ultimately to become heavyweight champion of the world. Anything less would be considered a failure.

Ringnews24.com: Is it tough to go full-time? Do you have to be more flexible to make a living from the sport?

Yes it is, but Life is tough! And good things take sacrifice so although I may come up against hurdles and set backs I am more then happy to face them. Yes you do have to be flexible but doesn’t everyone? It’s all about making choices and what you’re willing to do in order to get to your goal.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your current trainer and were do you train?

My trainer is my father Carlton Warren and we are based in Miguel’s Boxing Gym in Brixton.

Ringnews24.com: Do you always stay in shape between fights or do you put on a lot of weight?

Yes, I stay in the best shape possible. I am a professional athlete so therefore it is my job to stay in shape. In fact I look down at the fighters who pile on the weight in between fights as to me it shows their lack of professionalism and dedication to the sport that they chose to partake in.

Ringnews24.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far?

Most definitely my father. He has always been there teaching me and giving me advice and showing me tricks even before I decided to be a boxer.

Ringnews24.com: Who did you look up to growing up as a boxer – who was your idol?

I wasn’t very interested in Boxing growing up but I would always watch Mike Tyson when he was fighting. Everyone did!

Ringnews24.com: Do you watch any boxing at home and if so, which fighters most appeal to you?

Of course I do! I watch all the greats (fights and fighters) the smart fighters and the aggressive fighters most appeal to me.

Ringnews24.com: Who is the toughest opponent you have fought to date?

Myself.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your dream opponent at your weight?

I don’t need to dream of an opponent as I will eventually face everyone in my division.

Ringnews24.com: Who would you like to fight in the near future?

I would like to fight all those ranked above me or seen as better then me.

Ringnews24.com: What would you say is your biggest win to date in the ring?

My biggest if I had to say would be my 4th fight but that is due to me being happy with my preparation for that fight and it all going as planned.

Ringnews24.com: What is going on with your boxing career now – can you tell readers when, where and against whom you will be fighting next?

My aim this year is to have between 8 to 10 fights and just keep learning and developing. I will next be fighting on April 19th at York Hall. I have yet to be given an opponent however each fight has been a gradual step up so I will look forward to being tested and putting my skills in action.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

I would like to give a big thank you to all those who have supported me and continue to support me. I am thankful to have you behind me and will not let you down!
