Courtney Richards calls out Lawrence Bennett

Courtney Richards, has set his sights on the Southern Area Cruiserweight belt as he steps up his preparations ahead of his British Bronze Masters Title showdown with Lee Kellett.

The Plymouth cruiserweight will be an interested observer as Lawrence Bennett takes on Chris Keane in a British Cruiserweight Eliminator at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre on Saturday (7th June).

‘Bad Boy’ Bennett lost to Richards in December before going on to beat Jack Morris for the vacant Area title in March.

Now though, deep into his own camp ahead of his appearance on EJKO Promotions’ ‘Best of Devon’ show at Torquay’s International Riviera Centre on Saturday, 21st June, Richards wants another shot at Bennett.

“By the end of 2014 I will be Southern Area Champion,” Richards told www.uko-boxing.com. “The person that has it now doesn’t deserve it. I beat him up. I had him crying in a hallway after the fight with me.

“If I didn’t beat him, Bennett would never have got the opportunity. It is my belt. It will be mine.

“I want big fights this year. I want to expose a lot of boxers that call themselves fighters. They aren’t ‘fighters’ they’re scared of being hit and they are wrapped in cotton wool.

“I’m out this year to show their mislead supporters what a fighter is! First things first, I’m ready to take on Lee Kellett for a Masters belt in Torquay. After that, I’ll have Bennett in my sights.”

To see Richards and a host of Devon-based boxers in action, call: 07837 920 150. Tickets are £30 or £50 Ringside.

Plymouth light heavyweight, Angelo ‘Concrete’ Crowe, Plympton-based Spanish light heavyweight, Christian Hoskin-Gomez, Torquay super featherweight, Torryn Pook, and Exeter trio ‘Pretty Boy’ Freddy Kiwitt (welterweight), Faheem Khan (welterweight) and Lewis Browning (lightweight) also feature.

“It promises to be a great night of boxing,” Richards added. “It’s great to have a local show taking place.”
