Kalle Sauerland plans to put on UK shows involving David Price and George Groves

Ringnews24.com: Could you tell the readers a little bit about your boxing background and how you got into boxing?

I grew up with a boxing promoter as a dad. He’s now a Hall of Fame promoter so I often had world champions as babysitters! All joking aside, growing up in London I spent a lot of time around events and gyms. Dennie Mancini was one of the people we were closest to – we used to bunk off school to hang out at his shop and listen to his stories. We spent a lot of time and holidays with George Francis and Mickey Duff as well – people sorely missed by us now.

Ringnews24.com: What has been your best memory in boxing to date?

Every fighter has his own special memory, it would be unfair to take one and highlight it. But definitely among them would be our first Heavyweight World Champion, Nikolai Valuev. He beat beat John Ruiz at a massive show in Berlin with Muhammad Ali in the crowd. Then there’s Arthur Abraham v Edison Miranda (both fights) and both of Mikkel Kessler’s fights with Carl Froch – there really wasn’t a winner in either one apart from boxing. Also, all of Marco Huck’s defences are barnstormers and, of course, Alexander Povetkin’s speed train rise to the top with his wins over Chris Byrd and Eddie Chambers.

Ringnews24.com: If you could promote any boxer in the world, past or present, who would it be and why?

Muhammad Ali, because he is the greatest, but Marvin Hagler is a fighter I really admire. I think Tyson would have been fun too. Today, I am more than happy with our five world champions but, as recent signings have shown, we are still ambitious.

Ringnews24.com: Which Sauerland prospects should we look out for?

I’d say Tyron Zeuge and Stefan Haertel at super middleweight, Enrico Koelling and Deion Jumah at light heavyweight, Noel Gevor at cruiserweight and Jack Culcay, a former amateur world champion, at super welterweight.

Ringnews24.com: You have now signed two British fighters in David Price and George Groves. Do you have any plans on signing more British talent and are there any plans to put on shows in UK?

We will certainly be promoting them in the UK; they both already have great fan bases. We will sign fighters from all over the world as long as they fit into our team and bring a real international perspective.

Ringnews24.com: What are your plans for David Price, both short and long term?

Clearly there are some great UK fights to make with the likes of Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora in the short term. In the long term we have signed him to be heavyweight champion of the world.

Ringnews24.com: What are your plans for George Groves, both short and long term?

George will be world champion in the next year and will be a massive attraction for many years to come. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

Thank you for your support; without the fans there would be no professional boxing.
