Shannon O’Connell to fight for the WIBA world title

Australia’s ‘Shotgun’ Shannon O’Connell takes the next step in realising a lifelong dream in Melbourne on Sunday 6th July when fighting for the WIBA world title.

Having moved up weight divisions in previous world title opportunities, for the first time O’Connell has the chance to contest a world title in her own division. The WIBA world title is on the line in the fight between O’Connell and seasoned New Zealander, Bronwyn Wylie. No stranger to Melbourne, Wylie will long be remembered for her 10 round war in 2011, a close contest many considered to be Fight-of-the year.

“Since signing with FightCard Promotions my goal has been to prove myself in my natural division and to prove that I’m the best super featherweight in the world.” O’Connell said. “With my new team and new trainer I’m really comfortable at the weight and I’m happy to be back fighting girls the same size as me.”

The fight will be at Grand Star Receptions on Sunday 6th July in Melbourne. Tickets available by calling 1300FIGHTS or the website.
