Davis Expecting Toughest Fight To Date

Sean Davis is expecting his toughest fight to date when he goes toe-to-toe with Harvey Helmsley at Walsall Town Hall next month.

The Birmingham super featherweight has won his opening two contests since turning professional with Mark Wall’s Prospects Gym earlier this year.

After defeating Michael Stupart and Joe Beeden, 24 year-old Davis knows Helmsley will present an altogether different challenge.

“Harvey Helmsley is going to be my toughest fight to date,” Davis told www.uko-boxing.com. “He is a come forward, ‘have a go’ type of guy that does not quit.

“He will be coming for a win. However, I always prepare for the very best of fighters so I will be more than ready. Camp has been the best it has ever been for me.

“I have been on a full strength and conditioning course and this has added on to my normal training so I am much stronger and fitter than I have ever been before.

“Sparring has been great.  I’ve had the pleasure of sparring Lee Glover, who is topping the bill at Walsall, and I’ve also had plenty of rounds with my stablemates Paul Holt, Ainsley Seivwright and Michael Mooney.

“I enjoy all of my training, whether it is getting up early for a run or hitting the gym hard, I always enjoy it. I’m a boxing enthusiast so I look forward to my technical work too. I’ve worked hard on that side of my game and I think people will see that come fight night.

“Walsall is a great place to box. Lots of my friends and family are from Walsall. I’m expecting a great atmosphere off the Black Country lads too.”

Davis features on EJKO Promotions’ ‘The Heat Is On’ at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 11th July. Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.

As Davis alluded to, Tipton’s Lee Glover tops the bill in a British Masters Featherweight Title fight whilst Walsall’s British Masters Light Welterweight Champion, Luke Paddock, is chief support.

The show will be aired live and exclusive on BBC WM’s DAB Digital Service and online at www.bbc.co.uk/wm. The aftershow party and weigh-in both take place at the Pitch Sports Bar and Grill on Bridge Street, Walsall.
