Roy Jones Jr gets the Victory in Latvia

Boxing Icon Roy Jones Jr., was in action at the Kipsala Exhibition Centre, Riga, Latvia in a contest for the World Boxing Union (German Version) cruiserweight title. His opponent England’s Courtney Fry.

The bout was slow to get going but from the second the old Jones swagger, with left hand held low, was back. The former P4P No.1 keeping distance and timing his raids while Fry employed a flickering left jab but often falling short. Fry landed the occasional right-hand but was often reaching. It was the ageing legend, that controlled the pace and tempo of the bout.

Jones Jr., landed a hard flush left-hook at the end of the fifth round to drop Fry, who was fortunate that the bell sounded to signal the end of round. Jones had won every round and it was no surprise that Fry didn’t come-out from the sixth. This was the 39-year-old Courtney’s third defeat in a row and his record drops to 18-6, 6 KOs.

Roy’s record improves to 28-8, 41 KOs. It was his third straight fight outside the US after wins in Poland and Russia. The 45-year-old still has ability but is a shadow of his former-self.
