Peacock Gym’s Jordan Smith set for pro debut at Camden Centre on November 21

Debutant flyweight boxer, Jordan Smith signed with Greg Steene and Mark Prior is due to make his professional debut at the Camden Centre, Kings Cross on November 21.

The opponent is yet to be confirmed but the 21-year-old from Ipswich, currently residing in Chadwell Heath, is optimistic about his forthcoming fight regardless of who is placed in front of him on the night, commenting, “I know he is going to be a Latvian and that’s it. I’m just focused on my training and whoever I get will be knocked out. I’ve been fighting guys 10kg heavier for years and they’ve not bothered me.”

The Hellraiser Promotions show is still being finalised by promoter, Mickey Helliet and promises to be a packed line up of boxing talent to continue the impetus set by the previous shows so far this season.

In the build up to this fight, the Peacock Gym fighter has been put through his paces over the past few months by trainer, Ali Forbes and is set for some rigorous sparring sessions with TKO Gym boxers shortly.

Smith said of sparring plans in store for him, “My team are looking at going to several gyms, TKO, Rooney’s, wherever we can to get the right experience for me and I’ll be sparring super flyweights and bantamweights.”

Trainer, Ali Forbes commented on his young starlet, “He’s ever so keen for a young fighter, we have really stepped up the training as of this week.”

There are only a dozen professional flyweights in Britain with Liverpool’s Kevin Satchell topping the division as the British champion. With regular fights, there is scope for the hungry Smith to move upwards swiftly.

Regarding his professional ambitions, Smith stated, “I want titles, of course – the British title. There’s not many flyweights around so I’m prepared to move up and around the weights if necessary.”

Smith enjoyed a successful amateur career winning several titles in boxing and kickboxing. Competing at such a low weight meant that Smith struggled regularly to find suitable opponents to be matched with and consequently fought bigger, heavier guys.

In kick-boxing, Smith managed to win the 2010 65kg NAK Championship whilst weighing in on the day at 50kg. As well as this amazing feat, Smith also won a 57kg UFKKA schoolboy English title in the same year and was crowned the British Kick-Boxing Champion in 2012.

Smith looked back upon the struggles in his amateur career, “I went into amateur boxing but everyone was lying about weights and age and I just couldn’t find an amateur bout anywhere.”

“I fought everywhere in the amateurs, in the IBA in London and the EBA in Essex. The highest weight I’ve boxed against was someone at 70kg while weighing in at 52kg, and I ended up fighting two people in the same night. I won my first fight then went back to the changing rooms and there was another 70kg lad who’s opponent didn’t turn up, so I said, “I’ll fight him,” and 10 minutes later I was back in the ring!”

The fight is part of a Hellraiser Promotions show and while the rest of the schedule is still being put together, it will feature Smith’s teammate from The Peacock Gym, Sam Stokes 1-0-0 from Basildon, Essex looking to double his win ratio on the same night.

Tickets are priced at £35, £60 and £100 and are available directly from the Team Smith on 07906 876139.
