Lloyd Ellett spars with Eubank Jr. in preparation for British Masters title defence on October 31st

Unbeaten light middleweight, Lloyd Ellett was put through his paces in a sparring session at the Brighton and Hove ABC with Chris Eubank Jr. in preparation for the defence of his British Masters honours on October 31st at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton.

The Brighton based duo sparred over six rounds, both using the session as vital training for their forthcoming fights.

The British Masters champ commented, “I’m fortunate to have such good sparring local to me with Chris Eubank Jr, so it all helps to make me a better fighter.”

While Ellett 15(3)-0-0 headlines the show for the third time in Brighton on October 31st, Eubank Jr. 17(12)-0-0 will head to London to face Billy Joe Saunders 20(11)-0-0 to challenge for his EBU European middleweight title. Ahead of this fight with the tricky southpaw from Hatfield, and undoubtedly the biggest fight of Eubank Jr’s career to date, comes Jez Wilson at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on October 24th, just one week before Ellett’s first ever title defence.

As well as the unbeaten prospect, Eubank, Ellett has also mixed it up with welterweight Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng 15(4)-4-0, Peckham’s Johnny Garton 11(1)-1(1)-0 as he prepares to enter the ring against Vasil Vasilev 4-10(4)-0 this weekend, and also super middleweight Daryll Williams 7(1)-0-0 at the iBox Gym in Bromley.

Reflecting on the sparring, Ellett remarked, “I get fantastic sparring training at the iBox Gym and it’s very competitive. We also have lots of top fighters come to the gym for sparring, so I get to mix it with guys at different weights and styles which is great for me.”

The 27-year-old prospect has been investing a lot of time and effort into sparring sessions recently by spending the summer jostling with fighters abroad, “I’ve been working hard all summer by sparring in Vegas and Barcelona with top fighters so I’m definitely ready to put on a show,” said Ellett.

The 27-year-old prospect is relishing the opportunity to be the main event in his hometown for the third time in the space of 12 months. Ellett beamed, “I am very lucky to be headlining a show again in Brighton. The support that I receive from everyone here is unbelievable and the venue is so close, it’s just five minute walk from my house.”

In October last year Ellett first headlined at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton and defeated Faheem Khan, then 5-1-2, by TKO in the fourth round of the ten round contest claiming the vacant International Masters Bronze light middleweight title in the process.

A few months later in March this year and Ellett returned to the same venue to add the British Masters light middleweight title to his collection by defeating Gary Cooper, then 3-12-1, by a narrow points score of 97-95. The unbeaten home fighter gave his fans a shock by touching down in the second round.

For this third hometown event, Ellett is planning to reward his loyal fans by putting on a good show against a worthy opponent and moving up to 16 fights unbeaten. Ellett remarked, “I don’t know who I am boxing yet but we’re hoping for someone who will represent a step up, someone who will bring out a top performance from me.”

The fight is part of a combined promotions show with Scott Welch and Micky Helliet featuring local Sussex talent, Marcus Eaton 3(1)-0-1 from Shoreham, the newly crowned British Masters Bronze middleweight champion Nicky Jenman 9-8(5)-1, brother Lee Jenman 4-0-0, 27-year-old super middleweight James Child 1-14(4)-0, and heavy-handed featherweight Eli Green 5(3)-0-0 from Guildford.

Tickets are priced at £35, £60 and £100 and are available directly from the Lightning Bolt Team on 07896 748688.
