I deliberately lost the biggest prize in boxing – the Heavyweight Championship of World twice

“Through these eyes, I have seen greatness, and I have held greatness in the gloves I wore. I’ve been to the top of the world and as low as a man can get in all of this craziness which we call “life”. Now it’s my turn to have my say.”

 

I grew up on the streets of Philadelphia and ended up sparring with the greatest sportsman of all, Muhammad Ali. I saw for myself his decline at the end of his career, and the whooping he took from Larry Holmes that spurred me on to beat Holmes – which I did within four years of turning pro; everybody who matters knows I won that fight.

 

My court case against Don King was, of course, big news and, in my career, I won two world heavyweight titles. Now, to set the record straight, there is something else I need to say to put things right in my mind, and with my maker.
