Oscar De La Hoya Foundation kicks off 2014 season of giving

Golden Boy Promotions Founder and President Oscar De La Hoya has officially kicked off his namesake Foundation’s 2014 season of giving with two events focused on giving back to the community.

On Friday, Nov. 21, the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation in association with the California Municipal Finance Authority donated new, state-of-the-art boxing equipment to the youth that train at the Santa Ana Boxing Club in Santa Ana, Calif. De La Hoya was on-hand to present the donation, interact with the gym’s youth and encouraged them to train hard in school and at the gym.

“This is where you learn discipline,” De La Hoya said to the youth at Santa Ana Boxing Club before presenting the new equipment. “Boxing gives you a sense of empowerment. It makes you feel confident. It makes you be humble. That’s what boxing did for me.”

Oscar De La Hoya was joined by star fighters Randy “El Matador” Caballero, Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr., Gabriel “King” Rosado, Joseph “Jo-Jo” Diaz Jr., Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez and Diego De La Hoya at the event as they helped distribute more than 500 turkeys, fixings and other food products to the community. “I love being able to give back, and I believe that it is better to give than to receive,” De La Hoya said. “My success in boxing and business has enabled me to give back to the community from which I came, and to support efforts that truly improve the lives of others. I’m very blessed, and I want to be able to be a blessing to others this holiday season. It is truly an honor to be able to do that.”

De La Hoya will continue giving back this holiday season with the 18th Annual Toy Giveaway on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School.
