Ringnews24.com: When did you first get into Boxing?
I started boxing aged about 12 or 13, my mate was going for a few weeks and asked me too go along ,and that’s how it began for me.
Ringnews24.com: Who was your idol/Boxing idol growing up?
I always liked watching the Mexicans always in entertaining fights Barrera Morales and Julio Cesar Chavez were a few of my favourites.
Ringnews24.com: What gym did you go to as a young kid?
I always have been at the same gym since I started boxing at Irvine Vineburgh ABC, good hard old school mentality in there.
Ringnews24.com: What was your amateur career like?
I had a good run in the amateurs kept busy had about 70 bouts, won a few Scottish titles, a few western districts and a GB title. I boxed for Scotland as well so I can’t complain.
Ringnews24.com: You turned pro in mid 2012 did you look up to anyone in the sport at that time?
When I was coming through Ricky Burns was a world champion so its always inspiring watching the big shows, been on a couple of his undercard’s since which are cracking experience’s.
Ringnews24.com: Has there been anyone in your gym that you thought would make it to the big time but didn’t?
Not that I can remember, boxing’s a tough old sport and many come through with talent and natural ability, some with a good work ethic if you get both then there’s some great potential there.
Who has hurt you the most out of your 9 pro fights so far?
Obviously it’s got be my last defeat to Abdon Cesar, good lad boxed for Cameroon at the Olympics and beat a good lad with 14-0 recently Atif Shafiq, fairplay no excuses the better man won on the night.
Ringnews24.com: After you finish boxing what would you like to do?
I’ve been studying sport, health & fitness for the last 4 year at college, so hopefully get into the boxing coaching role & give a bit back.
Ringnews24.com: And finally Ryan do you have a message for any young guys wanting to box & do you have a message for your superb fans?
