Ryan Collins chats with Ringnews24

Ringnews24.com: When did you first get into Boxing?

I started boxing aged about 12 or 13, my mate was going for a few weeks and asked me too go along ,and that’s how it began for me.

Ringnews24.com: Who was your idol/Boxing idol growing up?

I always liked watching the Mexicans always in entertaining fights Barrera Morales and Julio Cesar Chavez were a few of my favourites.

Ringnews24.com: What gym did you go to as a young kid?

I always have been at the same gym since I started boxing at Irvine Vineburgh ABC, good hard old school mentality in there.

Ringnews24.com: What was your amateur career like?

I had a good run in the amateurs kept busy had about 70 bouts, won a few Scottish titles, a few western districts and a GB title. I boxed for Scotland as well so I can’t complain.

Ringnews24.com: You turned pro in mid 2012 did you look up to anyone in the sport at that time?

When I was coming through Ricky Burns was a world champion so its always inspiring watching the big shows, been on a couple of his undercard’s since which are cracking experience’s.

Ringnews24.com:  Has there been anyone in your gym that you thought would make it to the big time but didn’t?

Not that I can remember, boxing’s a tough old sport and many come through with talent and natural ability, some with a good work ethic if you get both then there’s some great potential there.

Who has hurt you the most out of your 9 pro fights so far?

Obviously it’s got be my last defeat to Abdon Cesar, good lad boxed for Cameroon at the Olympics and beat a good lad with 14-0 recently Atif Shafiq, fairplay no excuses the better man won on the night.

Ringnews24.com: After you finish boxing what would you like to do?

I’ve been studying sport, health & fitness for the last 4 year at college, so hopefully get into the boxing coaching role & give a bit back.

Ringnews24.com: And finally Ryan do you have a message for any young guys wanting to box & do you have a message for your superb fans?

If your wanting to box get round to your nearest gym, the rewards of training outweigh the blood, sweat and tears 100 x over.

A a message for the superb fans, thanks for the continued support can’t beat it #electriccollins
