United Boxing Promotions Announces Three More Ontario Fight Dates

On March 28, United Boxing Promotions kicked off its Spring boxing season with a bang, staging seven fights, featuring a mix of popular veterans and exciting prospects. It was one Ontario’s most intriguing boxing shows in recent memory. Logan McGuinness pitched a near shutout. Donovan Ruddock scored an improbable come-from-behind knockout. Ryan Young – for the first time – was taken the distance. Local favourites Kevin Higson and Junmar Emon went toe to toe for eight hard rounds. Tim Cronin blasted out New Brunswick light heavyweight prospect Travis Connors in under three rounds. Last, but certainly not least, undefeated super featherweight Josh O’Reilly kept his perfect record intact. Talk of March 28 is still echoing throughout Canadian boxing circles, but United Boxing Promotions is right back at it, scheduling three additional Ontario fight cards, slated for May 9 at Steakhouse 17 in Mississauga, June 27 at the Ajax Community Centre, and August 29 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

On May 9, United Boxing Promotions makes its debut at Steakhouse 17 in Mississauga for the return of Brampton’s world title contender “Dangerous” Denton Daley (12-1-0, 6KOs) in a ten round cruiserweight clash with Walter David Cabral (21-11-0, 8KOs) of Buenos Aries, Argentina. This is Daley’s first fight since unsuccessfully challenging WBA titlist Youri Kalenga for the interim world championship in November. In another cruiserweight tilt, crowd pleasers Shavar Henry (1-1-0, 1KOs) and Lyndon Chambers (1-1-0) do battle in a four round rematch. Chambers won their first encounter in 2014 by unanimous decision. In other action, Hamilton prospects Jessie Wilcox (1-0-0, 1KOs) and Josh O’Reilly (3-0-0) will take on opponents TBA. Further matchups will be announced in the coming days.

On June 27, United Boxing Promotions presents Canadian light middleweight champion Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook (14-0-0, 8KOs) in his first hometown pro fight at the Ajax Community Centre. His opponent will be announced shortly. On the undercard, Whitby’s Brock Arthur (1-1-1, 1KOs) meets Donald Willis (1-5-0, 1KOs) of Windsor in a heavyweight six rounder; Super lightweights James Bishop (0-2-0) of Niagara Falls and Kyle Marsh (0-1-0) of Peterborough will go four rounds or less; Tim Cronin (4-1-0) meets an opponent TBA; and two time Canadian amateur champion Ahmed Karatella of Oshawa makes his pro debut in a four round bantamweight bout against an opponent TBA.

On August 29,United Boxing Promotions returns to the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, with Denton Daley taking on Giulian Ilie (20-8-2, 6KOs) of Romania in a twelve round cruiserweight headliner. The card will also feature Hamilton’s light middleweight contender Kevin Higson (6-0-0) in his first ten rounder, against an opponent TBA. Higson recently scored the biggest win of his young career, taking a unanimous decision victory over once-defeated Junmar Emon (6-2-0, 2KOs) on March 28.
