In the co-main event on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY WBA “regular” middleweight title-holder Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (30-1-0-27 KO’s) scored a second round TKO victory over former WBC Super Welterweight Champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (28-4-2, 9 KO’s). It started as a slugfest in the first round as both boxers tasted the canvas once, which had the commentators already staging this fight as a candidate for best round of the year. Mora was knocked down again in the second round and it seemed as though he injured his right ankle, which caused referee Gary Rosato to stop the fight.
In the main event of “Premier Boxing Champions” televised on ESPN, former unified junior welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0-0-18 KO’s) scored a ninth round TKO over Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (33-7-0-7 KO’s). Garcia moved up to the 147lbs weight class after fighting for some time at 140lbs. Once he began to establish his dominance, Garcia was able to break Malignaggi down during the course of the fight.
In round nine, Garcia had Malignaggi in trouble which ultimately led referee Arthur Mercante Jr., to stop the fight at 2:22. It will be very interesting to see what Danny Garcia can do in the loaded welterweight division. I am pretty sure, that I am not the only person that thinks it is time for Paulie Malignaggi to hang up his gloves for good. There is no need for him to stick around and be the main gate keeper at 147lbs, when he has proven to be a very good ringside personality when it comes to calling fights.
