Whilst August is traditionally a quiet month in boxing, rising Promoter/Manager Steve Goodwin has not been taking time off and has been busy securing title opportunities for 9 of his boxers in the first 8 weeks of the new season.
“There are no easy fights at title level. But these guys wouldn’t expect it any other way.
They wanted the opportunities. We delivered!” said Goodwin.
“We work extremely closely with the boxers we manage and indeed those who promotionally are signed to us. Our team works really hard on securing opportunities and our boxers know they have a whole team working full time on boxing to help do this.” Goodwin continued “If we need to put our money in our pockets and secure home advantage by winning purse bids then we do that and in three occasions we have done this.”
First up is our Southern Area Featherweight Champion “The Genius” Jamie Speight who fights Isaac Lowe for the English title on the Matchroom/Sky sports show at Leeds on September 5th.
Two weeks later “The Pexican” Johnny Garton boxes Martin Welsh in a final eliminator for the English Title at York Hall Bethnal Green.
We are delighted to have won the Matty Askin v Lawrence Bennett purse bid for the English Cruiserweight title on our October 17th Goodwin Promotions “We never stop” show at York Hall. ” Bennett deserves home advantage and we did not want to travel to Blackpool for it so we put in a purse bid which was the highest received at the board” said Goodwin.
The same show sees four more high profile fights where Goodwin boxers are involved. Goodwin won the purse bids for Kris Agyei-Dua’s fourth attempt at winning the Southern Area Light-Middleweight title where he takes on champion Freddie Turner.
Goodwin boxer Floyd “Pacman” Moore also has home advantage where he takes on Gloucester’s Danny Carter for the vacant Southern Area Lightweight title.
“Smokin” Joe Mullender also has home advantage when he takes on Ben Davies in an eliminator for the English Middleweight title and Leon McKenzie takes on John McCallum in a British Title Super-Middleweight title eliminator.
Two weeks after on November 5th Olivia Goodwin promotes the British title eliminator between John O’Donnell and Dale Evans. “We hope Dale Evans does not withdraw from this fight” said Goodwin. “We put in a higher purse bid than Evans’s promoter and O’Donnell has offered winner takes both purses to Evans.”
Whatever transposes in all these fights Goodwin has once again proved he delivers not only for his boxers but also for fight fans in general.
