In the opening bout of tonight’s fight card on Showtime, the heavyweight native of Philadelphia Joey Dawejko (15-4-2, 8 KOs) scored a devastating knockout over Samoan Natu Visinia (11-2, 9 KOs) in just one minute and 15 seconds of the first round. Visinia hit the canvas twice before the referee called a halt to the fight.
Middleweight DeCarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Juan Ubaldo Cabrera (23-1, 16 KOs). Cabrera suffered a cut on his right eye, from an accidental head-butt, and a point was also taken away from him; for holding in the seventh round. The point deduction didn’t make a difference because the scores from the judges were 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91 all in favor of Perez.
In the main event of the evening at the D Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada undefeated Trevor Bryan (16-0-0, 11 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous over Derric Rossy (30-10-0, 14 KOs). Bryan dropped Rossy in the first round but didn’t finish him off. The heavyweight veteran proved to be a game opponent, as he took some big shots from Bryan throughout the rest of the fight. Rossy had some moments too, but he was visibly tired and could not do enough to keep the undefeated fighter from Albany, NY off of him. Scores from the judges were 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91 for Trevor Bryan. He is now the new NABF Heavyweight Champion.
The 6-foot-4 Bryan, who turned 26 on Aug. 23, went 10 rounds for the first time.
“I think I showed to people that I like to fight and that I will fight,’’ Bryan said. “The heavyweight division is weak. Guys don’t like to throw a lot of punches. Being this was my first time on television, I think I had more anxiety than anything, but overall I was very happy with my performance.
“Rossy is a very durable, experienced guy. For him to hang in like he did says a lot. I know I definitely hurt him a few times but I didn’t follow up with the right punches. I didn’t place my punches like I should have after he was hurt. I know I need to relax more and listen to my corner.
“I was a little surprised that he didn’t box and move more but this was a hard-fought fight and a good fight for the fans.’’
