Ricky Starkey: British soldier turns Pro boxer in March

Ricky Starkey landing against Costello

Ex-infantry soldier and army boxer Ricky Starkey makes his professional debut on the 26th March, at Ellesmere Port Sports Village. He boasts a very good amateur record and was a double Intercompany triple novice CSBA champion, a Novice ABA A class, quarter-finalist, B class Semi-finalist and Elite Merseyside and Cheshire Semi-finalist. Throw in his best boxer gongs and we have the making of a very good and exciting talent joining the paid ranks. Starkey was infantry in 1 Kings and 2 Lancs and served during Operation Telic in the Iraq conflict. The ring holds no fear for the Liverpool lad as he was involved in a blast in Iraq when his ‘warrior’ vehicle hit an IED. According to the man himself, “it’s the only KO against me”.

Time will tell what the Pro ranks hold for the tough and gritty scouser but after battling against the likes of triple Commonwealth Games medallist Danny Costello (losing a dubious decision) and still continuing to grit it out to a destiny unknown. You know it’s going to be one hell of a ride and you’ll be hoping you’d jumped on at the start.
His non-identical twin brother and sister will be cheering him on from the sidelines, as will the numerous buddies from the army. Join in the ride early and contact Ricky direct for tickets.

Tickets can be bought direct from Ricky on 07919075021 or via Kieran Farrell at www.thepeoplesgym.net
