Walsall ‘May-Hem’ final line-up

The Hatton Promotions and Black Country Boxing co-promotion takes place at the Banks’s Stadium, Walsall FC, this coming Saturday, 14th May. The show is sponsored by Grosvenor Casino Walsall.

Ricky Hatton trained duo, Sam Evans and Nathan Gorman, are both in action.

Wednesbury welterweight Evans will be looking to extend his perfect start to life as a professional boxer in what will be his fourth fight. The 20 year-old takes on Bulgaria’s Teodor Stefanov.

Nantwich heavyweight Gorman will also be looking to make it four wins on the spin. The 19 year-old floored Hrvoje Kisicek three times in the opening round at the Copper Box Arena last month and will be looking for a similarly explosive performance against Poland’s Kamil Sokolowski on Saturday.

Two-time British title challenger Jason Welborn, fresh from his 56-second stoppage of Michal Vosyka last month, takes on Atherton road warrior, William Warburton. Welborn, who turned 30 this week, has his eyes on a third crack at a Lord Lonsdale belt now that he has returned to the welterweight division.

Walsall’s former British Lightweight Champion, Martin Gethin, is also back in action. The home favourite, fighting at the home of his beloved Saddlers, hasn’t fought since being forced to retire on his stool against Tommy Coyle last year. A perforated ear drum, which has scuppered his recent progress, has been repaired and ‘The Quiet Man’ will be looking to make up for lost time. Gethin, stepping up to super lightweight, takes on Newark’s Fonz Alexander.

Undefeated Stoke super lightweight, Kieron McLaren, will be looking to extend his perfect record to 8-0 when he stepos in with Worcester’s Michael ‘Mad Man’ Mooney. McLaren has impressed of late but will have to be on his game against the always value-for-money Mooney.

Former kickboxing world champion, Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden, completes the card. ‘2 Slick’ takes on Lithuania’s Vaidas Balciauskas looking to build on his impressive debut victory in March.

The weigh-in and after-show party will take place at Grosvenor Casino Walsall, Bentley Mill Way, Walsall WS2 0LE (just off junction 10 of the M6). Yellow Taxi’s will provide a number of free taxi’s to take fight fans from Walsall FC to the Casino on the night.
