LeShawn Rodriguez: A Main Events Gem

Saturday night at the Grundy Arena, in Bristol, Pennsylvania, Main Events Boxing unleashes one of their hottest prospects in years. ‘Sugar’ LeShawn Rodriguez 3-0, 2 KO’s, takes on Jason Wahr 4-12-3, 7 Ko’s. In a card which features veterans Chazz Witherspoon & Emmanuel Taylor; ‘Sugar’ LeShawn is the potential superstar lacing ’em up at the Grundy Arena. LeShawn had a decorated amateur career. He is a 2012 Golden Gloves Middleweight Champion, a two-time USA Boxing National Champion, and a 2015 Olympic finalist.

At 6’1 with a 76 reach advantage, Sugar possess excellent dimensions for the middleweight division. LeShawn appeared on RingNews 24 Boxing Radio and indicated that he would prefer fighting at 154 pounds. Although he has tipped the scales over 154 pounds in each of his three professional boxing matches. Born in Coram, New York, Sugar LeShawn tells a story of living next to a boxing gym. Being lured by the smell of sweat & guts, attributes of any boxing gym worth its salt; LeShawn began boxing at age 15 and appeared to be a natural. LeShawn tells us that the name Sugar was given to him by impressive observers watching him hone his craft.

Sugar echos the admiration of Sugar Ray Robinson & Iron Mike Tyson, it is no wonder he stated to RingNews24 Boxing Radio he craves a knockout every time he steps into the squared circle. Saturday night is a chance to see a special kind of fighter, one who should be getting more press in the main stream sports media. Main Events Boxing will have to be patient to garner that type of attention for Sugar LeShawn. All signs point to it being worth the wait.

The rest of the card promises to deliver a good night of honest boxing action. The blue collar type of promotion that only boxing junkies will eyeball, and appreciate. The main event features Chazz Witherspoon, who also visited RingNews24 Boxing Radio, takes on Michael Marrone. Chazz indicated he know Marrone well, and knows he will “bring it”. Witherspoon, 34-3, 26 KO’s, told us he wants to make a push for a title shot in the heavyweight divison within the next two years. For that to happen, Chazz must beat Marrone, 21-5, 15 KO’s, in impression fashion.

The action takes place August 6th at the Grundy Arena, in Bristol, Pennsylvania. For tickets to see Sugar LeShawn Rodriguez, Chazz Witherspoon, and the like, ace ’em up live; call 856-842-7577
