This season we are pleased to welcome STV into the club. They will be providing live coverage of the September event, featuring undefeated Iron Mike Towell from Dundee.
Mike will be competing in a Final Eliminator for the British Welterweight Championship against Former British Title Challenger Dale Evans.Mikes journey began at the club in 2013 and since then he has produced some first class performances including an impressive first round knock out against Miguel Aguilar at the club in May 2016. Mikes great success has lead to this fantastic opportunity which will take him one step closer to achieving his dream of being British Welterweight Champion. In the opposite corner is tough and skilful “Big Boy” Dale Evans from St Clares Wales, who comes with an impressive record and the confidence to match. This contest has all of the ingredients to deliver an action packed top of the bill, which will be a treat for all in attendance.
The main support is ‘The St Andrew’s Sporting Club’, Boxer of the Year 2015/16 undefeated Light-Heavyweight Grant Quigley of Port Glasgow. Grant has made an impressive start to his professional career, with his last two opponents not hearing the final bell. This is a big year for Grant to make his mark in the division and we look forward to following his success.
Undefeated Greenock Welterweight Sam Ball is also featured on the bill after an impressive stoppage win on the under card to Ricky Burns’ historic three weight World Championship success at the SSE Hyrdo in April this year. Sam is one of our leading prospects and we are sure he is going to excite our members with his performances throughout the new season.
Completing the bill and making his professional debut is former amateur star Martin Harkin from Dumbarton. Harkin is son of former Scottish Light Weight Champion Robert Harkin, who last fought at the club in 1989. We look forward to welcoming Martin into the boxing dynasty at the club.
We are looking forward to welcoming back to The Club as chairman for the evening, Radio Clyde’s Hugh Keevins.
On this occasion the St Andrew’s Sporting Club will be welcoming ladies to experience the inner sanctum of Britain’s for most sporting club and we hope they have an enjoyable evening.
