“Irish” Cam O’Connell (12-0-1, 8KOs), the fighting pride of Red Deer, Alberta, turned in yet another impressive performance last night at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, stopping Hungarian Olympian Norbert Kalucza (11-2-0 ) inside three rounds. With the win, O’Connell has fought and won five fights in under a year, setting himself up for bigger and better things in the not too distant future. In the semi-main event, surging light heavyweight prospect Ryan Ford (8-0-0, 5 KOs) of Edmonton continued to turn heads against Victor Manuel Palacios (13-13-2, 8KOs) by taking a six round unanimous decision. “I was in there with a very tough, experienced, durable opponent,” Ford stated after the fight. “I have lots of work left to do, but it’s on to the next one!” Prior to the fight Ford stated he was willing to face any light heavyweight in the nation. After last night’s stellar performance, fans are eagerly awaiting responses to Ford’s sweeping challenge.

On the undercard, former CFL football player Adam “The Boogeyman” Braidwood (5-1-0, 4KOs) of Victoria, British Columbia, needed less than a round to stop provincial rival Adam Querido (2-1-0, 1KOs) of Vancouver in their scheduled four round heavyweight clash. Braidwood has now tallied four straight wins since returning to boxing in 2015. In another heavyweight tilt, undefeated Edmonton prospect Stan Surmacz Ahumada (6-0-0, 4KOs) took a four round unanimous decision from UFC veteran Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague (1-1-0, 1KOs). Ahumada and Braidwood are now neck and neck in their pursuit of the Canadian heavyweight championship. In the third heavyweight fight of the night, Edmonton’s Brad Switzer (2-0-0, 1KOs) held off a very game Dean Storey (9-17-2, 5KOs) for a four round unanimous decision. Last, but not least, three-time Canadian title challenger Anthony “Hits Hard” Lessard (10-9-2, 6KOs) of Edmonton continued his comeback in a super middleweight rematch with Dia Grant (1-9-0, 1KOs), winning by TKO4.

The Samuel Vargas-Ivan Pereyra fight was cancelled due to a training injury sustained by the former. We wish him a speedy recovery!
