Jordan Clayton is looking to make a statement in the ring

High Hopes is a fitting name for the Black Country Boxing’s upcoming bill in Birmingham Jordan Clayton has high hopes of making a statement in the ring.

The 22 year old headlines the who, at The Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport on Saturday, as he takes on Marcin Cybulski.

“With boxing I know what I like to see,” Clayton told www.uko-boxing.com. “I like all action style fighters and that’s the way I like to fight.

“I like to give people excitement when they come to see me box.

“I think that people think I’m a come forward type of fighter and that’s all I’ve got in my locker.

“But I know how well I can box and what technical ability I have as well as the power I have in my punches.

“I think that the better the opponent that is put in front of me, the more you will see out of me.

“Not somebody who is just going to tuck up and take punches.

“If you have someone who is willing to exchange, that’s when I’ll start catching people out and hopefully putting them over.”

Clayton has an extra incentive to make a statement as he is headlining in his hometown of Birmingham. He boasts three wins out of three, is hoping that the past can repeat itself against Polish pugilist Cybulski.

“I am proud to headline the event,” he added. “It’s nice that it is local to everyone as it is in my neck of the woods.

“I’m amazed at how much support I’ve had on this show to be honest. I’ve sold every last ticket of my allocation.

“He’s a taller opponent – a lot taller than me. In the past as an amateur, I’ve always done really well with taller fighters.

“In the semi-finals of the junior ABA’s, I stopped a kid who was around 6’4 at the time and I was the height I am now – around 5’5/5’6. And that was one of my best wins.

“With taller fighters I seem to benefit more. I don’t know why but the taller they are, the more of a target I’ve got to hit.

“I’m feeling confident – I’m always confident to be fair because I know what I can do.

“I never worry about the occasion, there are a few nerves on the day but I’m never nervous about the fight or the opponent.”

Birmingham middleweight debutant, Ikram Hussain, Lichfield flyweight, Brad Foster (4-0) and Leamington super lightweight, Michael Cole (1-0) also feature.
