Loach Ready To Kick On

Tommy Loach was delighted to get his debut win in the Town Hall in September and is hoping for more of the same in his second fight on Black Country Boxing’s ‘Going for Gold’ show at Walsall Town Hall, sponsored by Grosvenor Casino Walsall, on November 19th writes James Eley.

The West Bromwich fighter has big plans for next year but first he is hoping to go out with a bang in 2016.

“Hopefully this fight will just take me upwards and further on,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “This will probably be my last fight this year so hopefully I can get a good result and it can set me up for a great year in 2017.

“It felt unreal to get the win in September. I had been waiting for it for so long so to finally get in there and get the win on my professional debut was fantastic. It made all the hard work more than worth it. The plan now is just to box as much as possible and keep busy and keep working my way up the ladder.”

The 24-year-old still works full time with Severn Trent but he believes his grueling schedule will benefit his career.

“I am still working everyday like I was in the amateurs,” he added. “It is even harder now I am a professional to juggle both work and training but I don’t mind.

“I have such a motivation to make it work so I will never give up no matter how much I have to do. In the professional side I am training longer, on more days and doing different stuff but I love it and I am really enjoying myself.  I know that when it gets tough in my career I will be able to deal with it and I will be able to dig in and get through it. I have had to sacrifice a lot to do what I am doing so I know I will be able to cope with everything.”

The welterweight was satisfied with his performance in his last contest but is hoping to improve in his second outing.

“I was happy enough with my performance. I thought it was a good start and something I can build on in the future.

“There is definitely a lot more than that to come from me though. I was quite nervous for the debut so now I can fully relax in my next fight and I think my performance will benefit from that. I gained a lot of experience from the fight and I will take that into the next one and hopefully improve again.”

Loach is joined by Old Hill super featherweight, Manny Zaber, who fights for a first professional title at the top of the bill. Walsall super lightweight, Martin Gethin, Swadlincote’s undefeated super middleweight, Zach Parker, Chasetown lightweight, Luke Jones, and Wolverhampton cruiserweight, Joshua Burke.

The weigh-in and aftershow (over 18’s only) take place at Grosvenor Casino Walsall, Bentley Mill Way, Walsall, WS2 0LE (just off junction 10 of the M6). Grosvenor Casino Walsall will have a presence at the Town Hall on the evening and have linked up with local taxi firm, Yellow Taxi’s, to supply a number of free taxi’s to take guests from the Town Hall to the casino post-fight.
