Jamie Arlain chats with Ringnews24 ahead of his title fight against Andrew Joicey

Ringnews24.com: What are your thoughts on how your career is progressing so far?

So far, it’s going really well. I’m 4-0 and won the British Challenge belt in my last fight and got an eliminator for the Southern Area title next on December 3rd so it’s going according to plan.

Ringnews24.com: What sort of an amateur career did you have?

I had 45 amateur fights and won 24 at light-middleweight. Admittedly, I cut corners and didn’t take it that seriously. I boxed in the ABA’s and the Haringey Box Cup, probably getting into the finals of the Haringey Box Cup in 2009 was my best achievement – I lost out to Ryan Taylor.

Ringnews24.com: Have you ever visited any other gyms that have taken you out of your comfort zone?

Probably the Matchroom Gym in Essex. You have got to put in the work when in sparring classier boxers, really got to up your game and come out of your comfort zone. Boxers like Ohara Davies, Ted Cheeseman, John Ryder, Danny Dignam and Martin J Ward were all there that day.

Ringnews24.com: Do you always stay in shape between fights or do you put on a lot of weight?

I seem to relax a bit after all the hard work and pig out for about a week, then I feel sluggish and start getting fit again.

Ringnews24.com: Who is the toughest opponent you have fought to date?

Got to be Andrew Joicey.

Ringnews24.com: What would you say is your biggest win to date in the ring?

Last fight, beating Andrew Joicey for the British Challenge belt.

Ringnews24.com: What fight taught you the most as a boxer?
Probably my last one again. He’s a come forward fighter so you’ve got to stay tight and box.

Ringnews24.com: Who would you like to fight in the near future?

Michael Devine or Ben Day. I’m in the eliminator on December 3rd to fight the winner of their Southern Area lightweight contest.

Ringnews24.com: What title would you like to fight for next?

The Southern Area lightweight title.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your dream opponent at your weight level?

Anthony Crolla – he’s a great fighter at lightweight and always exciting to watch.

Ringnews24.com: Which current champion would be your preference for a world title shot, if you could choose, and what about your style makes you feel you can beat them?

Jorge Linares because I like the IBF belt the most.

Ringnews24.com: You have fought the majority of your fights in London. Would you like to fight in any other country or particular cities?

I’d like to box at the O2 or Wembley. If I went to America then it’d have to be the MGM Grand. The York Hall is like my home now, I’ve had all my pro fights there, so far.

Ringnews24.com: What is going on with your boxing career now – can you tell readers when, where and against whom you will be fighting next?

My next fight is against Andrew Joicey in a Southern Area title eliminator on December 3rd at York Hall over 10-rounds.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

Thanks for the great support and just keep following my journey.
