Undefeated welterweight prospect Juan Heraldez (12-0, 8 KO’s) has a very important fight this Saturday night, Aug. 26 when he faces off with undefeated Jose Miguel Borrego (13-0, 12 KO’s) inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Heraldez, 27, is a sharp prospect who has shown fast hands and an exciting style during his eight-year career. Nine of his twelve bouts have taken place in Las Vegas and he instantly caught eyes as a top prospect early in his career due to some highlight reel knockouts between 2009-2011.
Heraldez will be fighting on the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor undercard and understands the importance of fighting on such a monumental pay per view. Mayweather vs. McGregor could likely go down as the most-watched boxing event of all time, and Heraldez is happy to be a part of it.
“It means a lot to me being able to showcase my skills on this card,” said Heraldez. “Pretty much the whole world is going to be watching this and I’m fighting an undefeated prospect as well and we’re going to be able to take the next step in my career after this win.”
Signed to Mayweather Promotions, Heraldez is a diligent worker and is a gym rat who can always be found inside of the Mayweather Boxing Club. Heraldez last saw action this past April, when he won a decision over Alfonso Olvera, and he has had plenty of time to put in work for this matchup vs. Borrego.
“Training camp was good,” Heraldez said. “About eight weeks of training a lot of running a lot of training a lot of sparring with a lot of the people. It’s how it is in Las Vegas especially at the Mayweather boxing club. You are never lacking of sparring partners.”
When it comes to the work he has received in the gym, Heraldez has worked with several top prospects in champions, from former champion your Yuriorkis Gamboa and Floyd Mayweather himself.
Heraldez also credits rising lightweight prospect LaDarius Memphis Miller as he says Miller always gives him good work. Just this past Tuesday at Sam’s town in Las Vegas, Miller came through with the biggest victory of is your career in defeating contender Jamal Herring.
“That was a great win for him; I’m happy for him,” said Heraldez of Miller.
Several of Heraldez’s stablemates from Mayweather promotions will be fighting this weekend and he admits that he wants to see the whole team do well.
“We all want to look good and we all want to set the bar high and succeeding our expectations,” he said.
Often when two undefeated prospects meet, there are fireworks, yet Heraldez insists he will try to his skills more than anything else on Saturday.
“I’m just going to box him. It’s the sweet science.”
Heraldez has been fighting since he was eight years old and admits that there has been a lot of sacrifice along the way, yet everything seems to be coming together at the right time.
“I finally got what I deserve and on Saturday I’m going to take avenge of it.”
