Mentor turned professional boxer, Conroy Downer, is in positive frame of mind ahead of his first fight in his hometown on Saturday evening.
Downer, a 1-0 cruiserweight, runs an organisation with his wife, Michelle, called
Reactiv8, which supports people who are at risk of social exclusion. As a mentor Downer works across a range of topics with peple from all backgrounds such as mental health, prisoners, ex offenders, and the long term unemployed. Motivation is key and he enjoy the role, which he combines with life as a pro boxer.
“I enjoy what I do,” he told bcb-promotions.com. “The people I work with just need empowerment to go and create a life of abundance and what they deserve to have. It motivates me which gives me the drive to push on in my boxing career.
“I’m looking forward to fighting close to home, I loved the whole experience of my debut at the York Hall – to start my professional career there was amazing- but fighting close to home has always been something I wanted to do so I can’t wait for Saturday.
“Camp has been fantastic. One of my promises I made myself was that if I was going to do this I am going to be a professional through and through that means staying ready and making this a life style. So I don’t need to get in shape as I am already in shape, just up my training sessions to another level.
“I’m ready to go!”
Four other boxers from Northampton – Curtis Felix, Jamie Spence, Kieron Conway and Nathan Reeve – are also in action on BCB Promotions’ show at the Deco. A shoulder injury has ruled out Dominic Felix.
