Mickey Bey opens up about Rances Barthelemy fight, talks plans for the future

Mickey Bey

Mickey Bey is looking ahead to new challenges and most of all reclaiming a version of the world title before the end of 2018.

Bey, who was unlucky to lose his IBF Lightweight strap to Rances Barthélemy, is now planning a route back to the top. Bey opened up about the Barthélemy defeat and his plans for this year.

The Cleveland Lightweight said, “I didn’t have the best of training camps for the Barthélemy fight.

“I’m not taking anything away from him he’s a good fighter and the better man won on the night. However, I’d like to get revenge against him at some point in the future.”

Bey, who resides in Las Vegas, has been inactive since the Barthélemy fight, and he gave his thoughts on what he wants in the foreseeable future.

He said, “Firstly I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible.I’ve been in the gym and working hard so I’m ready to step back into a big fight and push for another World title.” The Lightweight division is buzzing worldwide at the moment. Next week we see the fantastic Jorge Linares clash with the impregnable Vasyl Lomachenko at Madison Square Garden in what could be a fight of the year contender and it looks like Robert Easter Jr will face Mikey Garcia this year as well. Bey outlined who he would like to face in the future.

Bey said, “The Lightweight division is a hot division at the moment, you have good fighters like Linares, Garcia, Easter Jr and many more. I want to be in the elite of World Boxing, so I need to face and beat guys like Linares and Garcia, Easter and all the other top lightweights to make that happen but I can’t accomplish any of that without getting active and getting fights .”

The former IBF Champion continued, “On my day I can beat anyone in the Lightweight division. I’d love to be in these kinds of fights soon after getting active”
